Back in the good old days when we were Flicks on 66, Heather Ayres of Seattle came to Albuquerque to make a haunting short called "101 Days." Heather has continued to ply the filmmaking trade and was recently honored with an award by the Independent Feature Project. Here's the text of that press release.

Seattle, WA (November 14, 2007) – Seattle-based filmmaker Heather Ayres and her short film project My Time With Betty has been awarded the 5th Annual Spotlight Award, a production grant featuring in-kind goods and services from leading Northwest production vendors.

My Time with Betty
is an intense, character-driven exploration of captivity, the chase for freedom, and truth versus illusion. It's about a woman wrongfully locked up in a mental asylum. When she finds out she's going back into isolation, she breaks free, and takes a local waiter hostage. But when the sheriff drops by she's forced to surrender her trust to a stranger, only to have the gun turned onto her.<!--more-->

“Every director’s dream is to have someone say to you, ‘Yes, I believe in your vision…here, go make your film ON film!’ That’s what winning the Spotlight Award is all about. There’s still a lot of work to make this production happen, but it means we’re making a film with less compromise and more authenticity,” said Ayres. “And I'm honored to be producing this film with Annie Flocco, an accomplished indie producer and long-time member of IFP/New York.”
