Dodging lightning bolts at Pueblo Alto, camping out in John Nichol’s living room, animating the micro-second fusion reaction that make H-bombs go boom, Michael Kamins has made over 50 documentaries. His work is distributed nationally, internationally and over the years has worked as executive producer, producer, director, writer, director of photography, editor and educator. There have been awards, an Emmy nomination, regional Emmys, showings at the Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery or the jury prize at the Telluride Mountain Film Festival which help compensate for those long shoot days and overnights in the edit room.

Prepared for the Shootout’s insanity? Michael is executive producer at KNME Albuquerque’s PBS station where every day is a shootout supervising field and studio productions. He learned his craft working commercials, as a dramaturge for original theatrical plays taking them from inception to full staged production, and 20 years of teaching creative filmmaking in the University of New Mexico’s Media Arts department. Michael returns for his third year to serve on the frontlines of the Duke City Shoot Out.
